Maxine Douglas demonstrates a lot of Northwell’s Core values. The two that I would like to talk about are Truly Together and Truly Compassionate. Maxine is often seen rounding on patients on both units, assisting nurses, and at times (many times) taking on a patient assignment. There is no job too big or small. She ensures that patients’ and families’ needs are met whether it is listening to family and patients or getting something they need. Examples are a pillow, recliner chair, etc. She also ensures the staff needs are met by checking in to make sure we get our breaks, oftentimes covering our patients so that we can get away from the unit. She contributes to a healthy work environment in many ways. She is constantly checking in on staff members on both units. She makes sure we take time away from the floor just to gather ourselves and recollect. She is there with a listening ear, to hear us vent and offer her support. Just knowing she is on for the shift, I feel at ease, because I know I don’t have to ask for help when she is rounding, she just jumps in whether it’s to clean a patient or transfer a patient. She brings a sense of "relief" and "calmness" when she is there because you know you have someone you can count on.
