May Capulong is a lead nurse with Internal Medicine at Springfield. Those who work with May, readily describe her as a leader and an example to follow. This starts with her commitment to skill-building and knowledge. For several years in a row, she has achieved board certification in ambulatory care and she reminds us all that learning is a lifelong journey.
May also believes that great care is not about heroics, it is about following best practices, advocating for our members, and through small, meaningful acts of caring. She demonstrated this in her care for an elderly member who needed medication right away. May considered what else the member might need and advocated for it, quickly coordinating with caseworkers, pharmacists, physicians, ride services, and home health care.
She is also known for staying calm under pressure as she did recently when a patient arrived without a pulse. May reassured the member's family and took charge of the code. She was able to get the patient's pulse back prior to the paramedics' arrival. In a stressful moment, she addressed the concerns of worried family members and provided life-saving care. May is dedicated, steady, and upholds all of our KP nursing values.
