I was sitting with a patient, and Maya was the nurse. The patient had come in after attempting suicide. Maya was very patient with her and made sure she understood everything as far as her care and that she would potentially go to the Center For Mental Health unit. Maya has always been a thorough, soft-spoken nurse to her patients.

The patient understood this but was worried about two things - not having any clothes and her dog at home. The patient’s family lives out of the country, and her boyfriend had just left on a trip out of state. Luckily, the patient was able to arrange for her neighbors to take care of her dog.

Maya immediately got on Walmart.com and had the patient pick out a couple of outfits, underwear, and socks so her stay in CFMH would be as comfortable as possible. Maya arranged and paid for delivery to the patient before she was transferred. This was very comforting to the patient and made her feel not so “judged.”
