Mayra walked into the room and the compassion in her eyes showed way before she crossed over to the hospital bed and took my hand, asking how I was and assuring me things would be Ok. As she did her job, she continued to talk to me in a way that made me feel calm and I did not feel alone. She kept the subject off of me when she could and talked about her own family. By the time she left the room, I felt that even in my condition I mattered. She had treated me with compassion and respect. Five days later she walked back into my room and showed the same attentive and compassionate attitude that all medical personnel should strive to show.
