The answer was Mayra Youngman. A competent, caring, quick-thinking, and persistent advocate for me when I needed it most.
After his cath lab procedure at Banner Heart Hospital, my husband’s recovery was complicated by extreme discomfort and stomach distention. Nurse Youngman did a thorough assessment, contacted his doctor for orders, and gave medications; yet he continued to decline. Eventually, the response team was called and he was taken for an emergent CT scan. During this 3-hour timeframe, Mayra kept her cool, and never left us alone for more than 5 minutes at a time, despite her having another patient with a femoral bleed and another patient who wanted his IV out and to be discharged RIGHT NOW! I have been and still am an actively working RN for the past 57 years. I often wondered, would I be supported when it was my time of need for myself or my family members. The answer was Mayra Youngman. A competent, caring, quick-thinking, and persistent advocate for me when I needed it most. Additionally, Nurse Youngman called me at home at 1 am to say that she had checked in on my husband who was stable and sleeping peacefully. She wanted to reassure me after just completing her charting and preparing to leave the hospital. Mayra Youngman represents the best of the nursing profession.

I was anxious to get my electrical cardioversion to lower my heart rate which was out of control since my COVID booster. I went through all the steps of wearing a heart monitor for a month, along with the exhaustion & breath-taking effects of A-Fib. Mayra was like an angel in such a positive and caring way. I don’t think I was afraid (except for the IV going in with little fluid in my system) but even she relaxed me saying, “Don’t fight the needle. The body knows, relax.” She got it in the only arm I can use, with ease! She explained everything that was going to happen in such a manner, that I was at ease again. She explained what went on with Dr. R, how many times I got blasted, and made me feel special in her care.
