Meagan Lawrence is the epitome of what every nurse should be: genuine. From the first day of my rehabilitation journey, I felt a special connection to Meagan. She was honest and never said it would be an easy journey. She never sugar-coated the reality of my life-changing surgery. She was real. She understood my trepidation and presented a positive attitude that I bought into; maybe I could do this. She was never too busy to listen to my fears or to discuss the reality of my journey. She was encouraging, compassionate, upbeat, and honest. We cried together, we laughed together, we formed a special bond. She cared; she was real. She went above and beyond by providing additional information about accepting my “new life.” She was my rock during the worst time of my life. For these reasons, she deserves the DAISY Award for the compassionate attitude she exhibits toward all of her patients. I am one of the lucky ones who was blessed to be under her care.
