The project was selected based on the complexity of the services rendered and the impact that the team has had on the delivery of healthcare services in the Dallas County Jail.
-Dallas County Jail, according to Forbes, is the 7th largest jail in the nation with a capacity of 6385 inmates.
-The clinical staff provides healthcare services to over 3000 patients.
-Our nurses deliver medications to these patients a minimum of two to three times a day.
-These nurses deliver over 4.8 million doses of medications a year!
-The nurses who staff the Correctional Health Central Intake assess about 250 patients each day.
-We schedule and transport 300-400 patients to Specialty Clinics each month.
-Our Care Coordination team spends countless hours working with courts, finding placement, and ensuring continuity of care for all our patients returning from hospitals.
-We have a Rapid Assessment Team that serves as a mobile emergency nursing service for our patients.
-We have a 139-bed Medical infirmary that houses our most acutely ill male and female patients. Ten of these beds are direct observation beds. The infirmary also has 30 negative pressure rooms for isolation of patients with diseases such as TB and chicken pox.
-The Correctional Health Psychiatric Infirmary opened in January 2016 and has a 146-bed capacity. This unit houses the most acutely ill psychiatric patients.
-The Psychiatric Infirmary admitted 1460 patients last year. These patients received 8879 contact hours of group and individual therapy. The Department currently has collaborated with El Centro College to offer art therapy classes.
-The Correctional Health Psychiatric Department has a state of the art Crisis Stabilization Team. This team provided crisis management services, including comprehensive suicide risk assessments and follow up visits to 5963 clients, for a total of 19756 contacts in the year 2017.
-The Psychiatric Department has a Forensic Services wing that coordinates care of patients with the various State Hospitals in Texas.
-The Psychiatric Department has developed multiple data tracking and analysis systems in-house, giving us tremendous capacity to analyze the impact of our clinical interventions.
-In May 2016, An Acute Care Clinic (ACC) and Observation Program opened. All Correctional health emergencies divert to ACC for observation, treatment or triage to a higher level of care at Parkland.
-There are three core towers at Lew Sterrett, South (Kays), North, and West tower.

The Dallas County Correctional Health, despite being one of the largest in the nations, has one of the lowest suicide rates in the country.
Increased use of the ACC has led to a considerable decrease in the use of ER services. For example, December 2017 ER send out of 102 compared to December 2013 send out of 282.
Correctional Health Services successfully met all of the standards set by the Department of Justice and obtain NCCHC certification in 2017.
The facility is also in compliance with the standards of the Texas Jail Commission.
We have been able to significantly reduce the number of patients who are housed in high restriction housing.
Patients with significant mental health challenges are now housed in an environment that is conducive to better treatment outcome.
Dallas Correctional Health institution after building the medical and psychiatric infirmary was named the "DALLAS MODEL".
