Meg set new boundaries and expectations that allowed the patient to push past his insecurities
Meg recently volunteered to work with a challenging long-term patient. She started working with this patient after unit reconfiguration and the patient was in a difficult place mentally and physically causing him to refuse most care. Meg formed a connection with this patient at a time he needed it most. By volunteering to work with the patient every shift, she provided the patient with consistency, a set schedule, and support. Meg set new boundaries and expectations that allowed the patient to push past his insecurities, and become engaged with his care team, and we began seeing improvements.
Through Meg’s compassion, she truly embodied the nursing profession. Although this did not come without its challenges, Meg met each one with grace and determination keeping the patient’s best interest at heart. Because of Meg’s dedication along with other key members of the patient’s care team, after over 300 days in the hospital, the patient was able to successfully leave with a safe discharge plan in place. Meg always gives 100% of herself when caring for her patients and it is evident she makes a positive difference in the lives of so many.
