She held our precious daughter with such tender care. Cleaned her up as much as she could, got handprints and footprints, swaddled her, and put on a hat. She treated her as you would with a typical delivery even though this was far from typical.
I learned at my 38th-week baby checkup that we lost our sweet little girl. From my OB office to home to the hospital, to giving birth, to going home empty-handed, it was all a devastating, hollow blur. I remember meeting our beautiful, sleeping daughter. I remember our phenomenally steadfast doctor. And I will never forget the other angel in our room, nurse Meg. Meg was with us from beginning to end. She never left our side unless we asked her to. She answered all of our questions, no matter how uncomfortable the question was. She encouraged me to eat and drink because she knew my body needed something to help it through labor even though I just couldn't stomach anything. She stood up for us and swiftly handled a situation. She held our precious daughter with such tender care. Cleaned her up as much as she could, got handprints and footprints, swaddled her, and put on a hat. She treated her as you would with a typical delivery even though this was far from typical. I was absolutely terrified to see/hold my daughter, Meg understood that. She waited until we were ready and handed her to us saying how cute and beautiful she is. She took photos for us to remember (I cherish this the most). When the priest on site didn't come up to pray with us or baptize our daughter, Meg did not hesitate and stepped right in to comfort us in that way. Meg told us she was asked to stay over 4 hours but we know she CHOSE to stay to be with us as long as she could. That meant so, so, so much. I will never forget her kindness, compassion, empathy, sadness, love, and care that day. If we are ever lucky enough to have another baby, I hope it's possible to request her as our nurse. Thank you, Meg, we appreciate you more than you'll ever know!
