Yesterday we learned that we are expecting twins! Our hearts were bursting with joy after trying for almost a year to grow our family. In the same moment we learned about our babies, we also learned one baby had a significantly low heart rate and viability was threatened. It wasn’t the ultrasound tech or the maternal fetal medicine doctor that sat with us while we processed this hard news – it was our midwife, Megan, who looked a lot like Jesus to me yesterday. She was honest and gentle with answering questions. She prayed with us and allowed me to cry and voice my concerns. She was empathetic and personal. I appreciate her presence while my husband and I attempted to understand all we had just learned. Unfortunately, with our situation, we were “phased out” of the Midwife program and transitioned to Obstetric/MFM care. We will miss Megan and her care model tremendously. She truly did put the patient first. While I was down, Megan was concerned about ME and MY babies – not a protocol. Megan made the difference yesterday.
