I am excited to nominate Megan Caouette for the DAISY Nurse Leader Award in recognition of her exceptional leadership, integrity, and unwavering commitment to her patients and team.
Megan consistently demonstrates leadership behaviors that go far above and beyond her role requirements. From her service as Chair of the Magnet Champions Committee and active involvement in the Professional Achievement & Advancement Council (PAAC), Megan has shown extraordinary dedication to advancing nursing practice. Even while working night shift as a Clinical Staff Leader, she volunteered her time on nights and weekends to complete council work, demonstrating remarkable ownership and drive. She actively seeks guidance from leaders and peers when navigating complex decisions and is thoughtful and intentional, carefully considering the impact and potential repercussions of each choice. Most importantly, Megan always follows through. When she commits to something, she completes it with excellence and clear communication at every step.
Megan promotes a positive image of nursing through her integrity, professionalism, and ability to lead by example. Not everyone possesses the balance of empathy, compassion, integrity, and grit required to be an exceptional people leader, but Megan does. She is deeply committed to fairness and equity, ensuring all team members are treated with respect and consistency. Her approach to performance management reflects this: she is incredibly thoughtful in getting to know her staff, conducting meaningful check-ins and thorough performance reviews that genuinely support growth and engagement. Her leadership inspires confidence, trust, and pride in the nursing profession.
Compassion and respect are at the heart of Megan’s leadership. She intentionally fosters a culture where staff feel valued and celebrated. She makes personalized birthday cards for each employee and proudly displays them each month, ensuring everyone feels recognized. She celebrates DAISY nominations, anniversaries, and milestones, creating an environment where appreciation is the norm. Megan also brings creativity and joy into the workplace. She is known for her beautiful holiday window paintings, which lift morale and create a welcoming environment for both staff and families. Her dedication even extends beyond traditional expectations. She worked tirelessly on the DAISY cart, enlisting her dad and his carpentry team to add custom wooden details, demonstrating not only her commitment but also her personal investment in honoring nursing excellence.
Megan’s leadership keeps quality and patient safety at the forefront. She has led multiple quality improvement initiatives, most notably a highly successful and ongoing patient education project. She ensures her staff is informed, engaged, and empowered in process improvement efforts, reinforcing a culture of safety and continuous learning.
Megan forms meaningful, authentic connections with staff, patients, and families alike. She is highly visible, approachable, and consistently checks in with team members across all roles—from PCAs to nurses to providers, including weekend staff. Her ability to connect builds trust and strengthens teamwork, ultimately improving patient care. She leads as a true servant leader, always prioritizing others' needs while maintaining high standards of excellence.
