Megan's sense of Community was obvious from the instant she met us. We felt she was our connection to the medical process on a human level.
If any individual exemplifies Monument Health Values it would be Megan. Our family met Megan while we were vacationing in the Black Hills. An unfortunate fall while hiking caused our older Patriarch several issues both minor and some more concerning.
Megan was assigned to care for our husband, father, and Papa. She immediately gained our trust by actively listening to our concerns and helping us negotiate the intricacies of an unfamiliar hospital outside our home state.
She showed a wonderful amount of respect for our patient and made us all incredulous when she called him “Sweet” – (Our crusty patriarch prides himself on his grouchy exterior). When we questioned if she was talking about our patient, she laughed and again said she thought he was “sweet.” When we told him about the conversation, he said Megan had already shared it with him.
Her Compassion was obvious when she stayed in the room when the various Doctors gathered and quietly listened to their discussions and then translated the “medical” to the “personal” for our patient. Later she relayed the “medical” to our daughter (a PHD in Medical Research) to help the entire family become comfortable with the processes and procedures.
Megan's sense of Community was obvious from the instant she met us. We felt she was our connection to the medical process on a human level. We seldom met a doctor, and our patient is hearing impaired, so she was both his and our family's conduit to the medical process.
If Excellence could be given a number, then Megan would receive the highest number possible from our family. She spent a great amount of time searching for a lost hearing aid, later discovered in his ear, more time talking to our PHD daughter discussing his issues, and most of all, writing us a Thank You note for allowing her to care for our patient! This is an Extraordinary RN who remained “compassionate, kind & sincere, trustworthy, passionate and caring” throughout his stay. Best of all, she allowed us all to hug her before we left for home. In reading the criteria for awarding the DAISY Award, there is little doubt that this nurse is the personification of the caregiver you described.
Note: This is Megan's 2nd DAISY Award!
