REX has a "gem" of a nurse in every way that makes a patient and family feel cared for in an expert manner. Megan Dobbs was assigned to my husband's care for a 12-hour night shift in May. Her expertise, kindness, attention to his needs and bedside manner were superb. Every RN should understand how grateful a patient is to have their nurse not only explain what the care plan is but to write it on the whiteboard. It is rare to have someone write more than their name and only change the date.
We had Megan's notes for the entire stay to refer to when needed. Each time she entered the room, she was reassuring, smiling, and efficient without appearing rushed. I could fill up pages with accolades but allow me to leave you with her most powerful statement.
In the early morning hour, she was attending to my husband. When she finished, she smiled and asked if there was anything else she could do. Did he have any questions? Did he need anything? And she finished the sentence with "I have the time." I was completely overwhelmed to hear this. I am a retired healthcare worker. I started my career in Nuclear Medicine and ended as a hospital COO in Texas. I was employed with Baylor University Medical Center. Baylor embraces the Quint Studor customer service model and employees practice these methods. Telling a patient "I have the time" is very important. I asked Megan if she was familiar with Studor and she was not. This proves what a wonderful nurse she is with extraordinary, innate customer service skills and a big heart to match. Bravo, Megan!
