Megan Elise McBride, RN
I would like to nominate Nurse Megan from 7 North for a DAISY Award in recognition of the extraordinary compassion and care she showed my family during an incredibly difficult time. My two sons were admitted to 7 North due to complications from influenza. It was a deeply traumatic and emotional experience for my wife and me, not to mention for our children. We had never used the Johns Hopkins All Children’s Health System before, and even though my wife and I both have backgrounds in healthcare, the situation brought a tremendous amount of anxiety.
When it comes to your own children, nothing prepares you for that moment. We found ourselves wondering what our experience would be like- would the nurses be kind? Would the physicians be compassionate? Would our boys be cared for the way we hoped? As we moved through the emergency department and eventually had both boys admitted to the same unit, we met a nurse named Megan. It didn’t take long for us to realize that Megan was someone truly special. From the very beginning, you could feel the genuine compassion she carried. She didn’t just care for our children-she cared for our entire family. Whether it was the number of times she checked in to make sure we had everything we needed, the empathy she showed as we navigated the fear and uncertainty of the situation, or the calm reassurance she offered during difficult moments, Megan consistently went above and beyond.
What stood out most was that Megan was always there for us-even when we were not assigned to her. She would stop by to check on us, bring us coffee or water, answer our questions, and simply make sure we were okay. Those small acts of kindness made an enormous difference during a time when we felt overwhelmed and emotionally drained. Having two children admitted at the same time adds an entirely different level of stress and complexity to an already frightening situation. Yet Megan helped make it manageable. Her presence brought comfort and stability when we needed it most. Megan truly represents what it means to be a nurse.
Beyond her professionalism and clinical skill, it is clear that she is also simply a wonderful human being who genuinely cares about others. Her compassion is authentic, and her dedication to the families she serves is evident in everything she does. She is the nurse who helped our family navigate the unknowns of our hospital stay, and she is the nurse we will always remember for turning a very difficult experience into one that felt supported and compassionate. I cannot thank Megan enough for the care and kindness she showed our family. She is incredibly deserving of recognition through the DAISY Award.
