Our vibrant, unique, loving, adventurous mother, was fortunate to be admitted to 15C where Megan came into her life. It became evident fairly quickly that recovery was not possible and that our mom was to spend her last days on 15C surrounded by her loving family and an incredible, loving, professional staff. Megan became our favorite nurse from the start, as she realized quickly how my mom's illness, preparing her for her final journey, and saying goodbye to her was the hardest thing my dad and her large loving family had to experience. Megan immediately realized how special our mom was to all of us and the cherished bond our parents shared after 65 years of marriage and ten children. She saw the devastation in our dad's eyes and his grieving heart. She took enormous care in making sure our mom was comfortable and treated her with dignity and gentle hands. She actually took care of all of us, as we sat daily with our mom, holding her hand and whispering loving words to her. Our 89-year-old dad spent every night in our mom's room, and the staff made sure he was comfortable in a recliner next to her bed holding her hand. Megan often insisted that our dad climb into bed next to our mom so they could snuggle. She innately knew the comfort it would bring to both of them. Megan was with us the day our dad lost the love of his life and we lost our beautiful mother. After our mom took her last breath, she once again helped our dad climb in next to our mom and hold her one last time. She gave them both a lasting gift that our dad will always cherish. Thank you to Megan from the bottom of our hearts, as she's a shining example of what it means to be a nurse.
