In our duties as nurses, there are many facets of our work that we feel would fall under, "doing our jobs". Our patients may see it differently. We have an honorable profession and we do our very best to provide those small acts of kindness that will make a difference in someone's outcome. However, above and beyond for some nurses doesn't really exist, only because "above and beyond" is how they go about their lives and their work every day. Megan is one of the special nurses who does go above and beyond for each patient. She has clear empathy and understanding of her patients and their loved ones.
Megan is a critical care float and has spent much of her time over the last several months in our CCU taking care of the very sick and the frightened. She has a way with her patients that allows them to sense her compassion and gives them confidence in her care.

It was our first night in CCU. We had no idea what was really happening with my husband. Megan patiently explained, even kneeling down so she could look me in the eyes. I knew I had her total attention. She explained things clearly, not patronizingly. Throughout the night, she was just amazing with both of us. She lessened my anxiety and patiently answered my four million questions. She represented CCU in the best possible way. You should be so proud of her!
