Over the past year there was a specific patient on the unit that grew very fond of Megan and his overall mood was different when she was caring for him.
Megan has been an RN on 6 Monti since 2018 and during this time has become an informal leader on the unit. She continuously shows staff what it means to feel supported; whether she assists them with a difficult patient, help a novice nurse learn a new skill or managing high patient flow. She works tirelessly to enable our staff to succeed.

During the COVID pandemic, Megan was adaptable in assisting in opening and closing multiple COVID units. Megan started her day with the biggest smile and has an energetic personality and love for nursing is seen on a daily basis by her patients and co-workers. She has been an instrumental part in building our relationships with our outpatient transplant group through their work in our units CCC.

Over the past year there was a specific patient on the unit that grew very fond of Megan and his overall mood was different when she was caring for him. Some days he was not eating, not moving, and not participating in his ADL’s but when Megan came in the room (even when she wasn’t assigned to him) he would eat and sit in the chair. It wasn’t because she told him to do it but because she inspired him and gave him hope. Our patient sadly decompensated and lost his sight, everyday Megan would come to work and stop in his room and say “Good Morning!” he would reply “Good Morning Megan”. He recognized her voice! Her voice and the voice of his wife and children were the only voices he knew. When he was placed under Palliative Care, Megan went at the end of her shift to say goodbye. Our patient passed a few hours later. It's because of nurses like Megan that our patients and their family members find comfort in the illness they face and sometimes the loss they have.
