I recently received a phone call and follow-up email from a previous patient’s family. Although compliments of Megan’s work by family are not uncommon, this particular email prompted me to reflect on who Megan is as a person and member of my unit:
During my father’s frequent visits to Providence in the last 5 months, Megan Lumley was, without question, the best nurse he had. She displayed not only care and concern for my father, but she tried to anticipate his needs. I remember asking her, “Don’t you have other patients that need help?” She responded, “Yes, but not as much as your Dad needs me right now.” … she displayed the kind of love for her work that would make any employer delighted to have her working for them. Please take very good care of her --- she is an asset to your institution!
Megan has put her commitment to providing the best standard of care to her patients in action. Megan exemplifies the kind of nurse the Daisy Award was established for and it’s my honor to submit her nomination.
