On a Friday before a long holiday weekend, a patient under the care of Megan Lynam was being discharged home with a diagnosis of the flu. Tamiflu was prescribed for the patient and she was given the prescription for her discharge. The patient confided in Megan that she did not have the financial resources to get the prescription filled and obtain the medication needed to help ensure her recovery.
Megan collaborated with her team, the Charge RN and Case Management in her efforts to help this patient. Megan only kept coming upon roadblocks. So, she did some internet research. She found a pharmacy program on the internet called GoodRX.com, a program that helps fill prescriptions for the uninsured or those lacking financial resources. Megan, together with her patient, proceeded to process all the information needed to enable the Tamiflu to be obtained for the patient without cost.
This event represents the highest degree of advocacy that Megan always provides to every patient every shift, not only her assigned patients but to all our patients on 4 West. Megan is a true DAISY Nurse.
