Megan works as a case manager on D4 and identified a patient of hers was going to be here in the hospital on his 50th wedding anniversary. She had developed a relationship with her patient and his family during his stay that exemplifies what we at St. Joseph's Health identify as Excellence in nursing. She went above and beyond her normal responsibilities and wanted to make this day special for the patient and his wife on their 50th anniversary. She called the chef in the kitchen and inquired how we could make a special dinner for the patient and his wife. The chef and Megan were able to make special arrangements. Our chef wanted to make and present the dinner to the couple to make sure it was perfect. Megan and the discharge planning assistant bought balloons, a red velvet cake, fancy plates, napkins, battery operated candles, and a card to make this day as special as possible for them. Megan was caring and compassionate and very thoughtful to provide this patient and his wife a very special and happy 50th wedding anniversary even though he was in the hospital.
