Megan gave the child a stethoscope, so she could listen to her Nana and allowed the child to look at the wounds, ask questions and be a “little nurse.”
Megan is such a compassionate nurse, so smart, so patient, and so particular. Today I want to nominate her because I feel like she went above and beyond. She gave some extra care to a patient in need: got her on a specialty bed, got her up and moving so she could heal faster, and pee on her own. Now…this is normal nursing care by good nurses, and we see this every day, but what stood out the most was that she not only did this for the patient, but she also took the time to make the patient feel loved by spending time with her grandchild. The patient told me that while Megan did her assessment, she allowed her grandchild to be part of the care. Megan gave the child a stethoscope, so she could listen to her Nana and allowed the child to look at the wounds, ask questions and be a “little nurse.” Instead of just quickly going through her assessment and getting on with her day, Megan inspired this child with the world of nursing and healthcare. At shift change, the little girl came running to Megan to show off her new stethoscope and to give Megan a hug - so, so sweet! Megan is an amazing nurse, and this little act of compassion, patience, and kindness touched my heart, the patient’s heart, and anyone who would have seen it. This is what makes nurses amazing. Thanks, Megan.
