Megan Probasco, RN
We recently had a patient come to the unit for a procedure. This patient had a history of dementia and was very agitated when she arrived at the unit. The patient's daughter accompanied the patient to try to help keep her calm/ sign consent for the patient.
Megan was calm and soothing the whole time with the patient. Once the patient was in the procedure room, the patient's daughter was apologizing profusely to Megan.
Megan assured her that it was okay and that there was no need to apologize. Megan then gave the patient's daughter a cup of coffee and muffin.
She told her there was nothing to apologize for and that she would relax and enjoy breakfast while her mother was in her procedure. Megan could tell this was not only a stressful time for the patient, but a stressful time for the daughter as well.
She made sure both her patients and patient's family were cared for and felt comfortable while in her care.
