The journey of our family has been a hard one. We wished to submit this sooner, but the pain of loss was too much to bear. A few days after Christmas 2016 my dear grandmother was admitted knowing she probably wouldn't be coming home. Over the next few days this dear nurse, Megan Rohrer, tended to her every desire. We were all so blown away by her gentle and determined nature to help ease my grandmother into what was to come. Every given opportunity she had, she spent comforting our family, and mentally preparing us for the hardships ahead. Little did we know what was to come of this. On New Year's Day, my grandmother lost her battle at 10:30 pm. As I dreadfully drove back to the hospital to be with my mother and great aunt to help finalize anything that needed to be done and to pay my respects, I got off the elevator on that floor and who was standing there but that dear sweet nurse, Megan. She grabbed my hand and gently comforted me as we walked to my grandmother's room one last time. She stood in the doorway, watching over all of us so we would not be disturbed. As we collected ourselves, and things we all began to leave one by one, she gently hugged each of us, sharing her condolences. I was the last to leave and Megan softly grabbed my hand and quietly said, "This is my first night shift, something told me I needed to be here for you tonight." I was stunned, here is this young nurse who gave up New Year's to be standing in a hospital watching over the patient she so dearly loved. Words do not begin to describe how this nurse has touched my life, and the rest of our families lives. She deeply cares for every patient that she has. As time passes and wounds heal, I came to learn that dear Megan is actually a sister of someone who my husband is great friends with. Her parents should be extremely proud knowing that they raised such a remarkable, loving, caring and tenderhearted woman. She deserves everything in the world!
