Megan was honest yet sensitive with her answers to all our inquiries, and while my father could communicate, he spoke highly of her, and how well she had taken care of him.
2020 is most definitely a year like no other. The pandemic has changed so much of healthcare. Visitation restrictions is the ultimate sacrifice a family has to make. We are forced to rely on the health care team to not only provide the medical treatment needed but, also give the extra tender touch and support that the family is now unable to give. This is unfortunately our story.
The letters that follow explain the exceptional care our father received. He contracted COVID and was admitted to 4E after fracturing ribs from a fall. We sadly lost our father. Heaven gained an angel that day. Southwest General gained one too. Her name is Megan Screptock.
Megan exemplified the highest level of professionalism with her constant attention to our father during his last days with us, yet apart. She was in constant communication with our family, astute, making sure that we were available to talk to him through FaceTime the entire time his health was failing. We could not have asked for anyone more considerate during this difficult time.
Megan was honest yet sensitive with her answers to all our inquiries, and while my father could communicate, he spoke highly of her, and how well she had taken care of him. He noted her pleasant smile, only visible by the kindness in her eyes for the mask covered her true solace while reminding her to stay happy. Megan is an exemplary model to her colleagues, especially to those who look to excel within the medical field during such unprecedented times. My heart goes out to her performing a myriad of demanding medical necessities while maintaining a peaceful demeanor and consoling tone to us all. She too feels the pain of families, empathizing, showing us all we are not another statistic, another day at work, a chore.
Balancing her attention between doctors and patients, and families exemplifies her competency throughout her time working with us. Nominating Megan for the DAISY Award is only a symbol of the respect, fortitude, and humanity she beholds, and our family is truly thankful for all she has given us. We want her to know she made a difference in our lives and that she is not taken for granted.
