She was my nurse, and she truly made me feel as though I was her only patient. She listened with compassion, and because I built trust with her, I knew I could trust her as my advocate should anything go awry.
Megan was my nurse during my time on 5E. She quickly became my favorite, and she built trust through her compassion. Every interaction with Megan was filled with peace and calm, even when I was crying and feeling defeated. Upon my re-admission, Megan recognized me as I went for my first walk in the hallway. She was my nurse, and she truly made me feel as though I was her only patient. She listened with compassion, and because I built trust with her, I knew I could trust her as my advocate should anything go awry. Most memorable is when the doctor and she were in the room simultaneously, and my pain was starting to worsen, but more so my frustration with my body being sick again and not healing. Megan never told me to withhold tears, but she encouraged me by saying I would be all right. Megan knew my ostomy bag needed to be changed twice overnight. Anytime I requested to have her check under the bag, she did so with a smile. Megan also searched for the “smile” and “half-moon” tape needed as my personal ones were used, and it was a Saturday. Megan truly exemplified the kind of nurse who is a role model in creating a significant, memorable experience as a patient.
Executing care with the highest level of professionalism, clinical excellence, and advocacy for me. I am a person who has trust issues. I witnessed Megan being trustworthy in all she did, such as being sure I had the ostomy supplies needed. My admission was not planned, and I had limited ostomy supplies with me. She was able to get the specific type of supplies that I use. Thank you, Megan!
Note: This is Megan's 2nd DAISY Award!
