My father was a transfer from MICU at Union Hospital in Elkton and he had emergency abdominal surgery when it was discovered that the PEG tube was displaced. By the time Megan was his primary nurse; Daddy was post-op day 20 and had not had a bowel movement. She was instrumental in getting an order to d/c the foley catheter and starting bladder scanning and cathing Daddy every 4-6 hours. She was determined to go about solving this problem. She got the teaching attending involved and got the ball rolling so to speak. We met with success and Daddy was able to have his 1st bowel movement after post-op day 20. I was so appreciative of how she reverenced my father who is very modest and the respect she showed toward him.
As a leader, Megan was a role model in facilitating the care of my father in every aspect respecting his spirituality as part of his care. She helped alleviate our anxieties after having such a challenging experience at the previous hospital. I could rest knowing that Daddy was receiving such a high quality of a care. Today I called her an angel sent from God. Yes, I realize we have some tough roads ahead of us but I can truly say she has represented the nursing profession at the highest level. Whatever the outcome I shall never forget her and the time she took to address the issues. Her excellence in care will never be forgotten.
