When I come in for my monthly infusions, it's evident that Meghan is aware of any issues that I may have that can be outside of my infusion and will make accommodations for me. I know this sounds strange, but to a degree, I feel that I have been adopted by Meghan in regard to my Oncology care.
I have been a cancer patient at Northwestern since 2005. Initially treated for base of tongue cancer and for the past several years for CLL. Over that time, I have been under the care of dozens, if not hundreds, of nurses, of which the majority have been competent and professional.

Prior to the completion of the Lurie Comprehensive Cancer Center l have been been treated in every Facility at Northwestern that provided infusions and Chemotherapy treatments. While I don't think I hold the overall record I have had well over a dozen Oncologists administrating my care. Additionally I spend part of my year in Florida and have the experience of Oncology Hematology departments down there.

One thing that I have experienced is that, to a degree, I am a number. I'm one of hundreds of patients that they see, and beyond a quick review of my file prior to my appointments, I'm not that memorable. For the most part, that has been my experience, with the exception of the care and treatment that I have received from Meghan. When I come in for my monthly infusions, it's evident that Meghan is aware of any issues that I may have that can be outside of my infusion and will make accommodations for me. I know this sounds strange, but to a degree, I feel that I have been adopted by Meghan in regard to my Oncology care. Recently, I found out that Meghan would be aware of my schedule and request to provide my care. Where I was scheduled on a day when she would not be on the floor, she would make sure to update the nurse responsible for my care about me so that they would not go in blind.

I realize that being a cranky old guy, I am not the most pleasant person to deal with, especially when I'm in discomfort; Meghan has consistently made me comfortable and confident in the care that I have been receiving. When Meghan is not available and another nurse is providing my care, they always make a point to tell me that Meghan made a point of reaching out to them to make sure that they would treat me right. Unfortunately, I have a number of health issues, and in addition to Northwestern, I have experienced care at many hospitals. In all that time and experience this is the first time that I am acknowledging a nurse who provided care for me.

Now it's obvious that Oncology departments are not like restaurants; while I do get a choice on the Hospital or clinic don't get to make a choice on what department of building I receive my infusions, but if I did I would choose the department where I could receive my care from Meghan and her team. Simply, she makes me feel that I am a person and that she not only cares about the care that I am receiving but also me as a person.

For the reasons above, I would like to nominate Meghan Enright for the extraordinary care that she has consistently provided me over the past several years.
