Meghan is an awesome staff nurse, relief charge nurse, and cross-training in the Medical ICU. Meghan recognized a problem with our patient population where we were discharging patients without shoes. For whatever reason, patients would arrive in the Ped's ED without shoes, such as auto accidents, getting clothes and shoes taken off for trauma, or taking the patient out of their home. We would give them hospital socks, but that isn't a great way to ensure our patients don't get hurt walking to the car or bus. Meghan started a flip-flop drive 2 years ago where she asked the Ped's ED/UC staff to buy $1 flip flops of different sizes and bring them to work. After a ton of work, Meghan was able to fully stock all pediatric and adult sizes. Now when we have a patient who doesn't have shoes, we are able to give them a pair of flip flops so they can walk out safely and feel cared for. Meghan does a ton of great work, she also organized the bring your child to work day for our department and is an instigator of positive change.
