Meghan was the charge nurse in the DOU during a very busy day. A patient on the unit had been declining and the family was notified to come and see the patient. The MD agreed that the family should be made aware. Ten minutes later, the patient expired. At this time, the MD attempted to notify the family. However, the family member arrived and when notified of the patient's passing, became very upset and hysterical. The family member was screaming at the staff and thought that the patient died alone. Meghan assured the family that the manager, herself, and another nurse were at the patient's bedside when they passed. Meghan was calm, professional, and empathetic despite being yelled at. Of note, the patient had Covid, and the extended time spent in the room included donning and doffing of PPEs multiple times to ensure the patient was not alone at the time of their passing.

Thank you, Meghan, for your exceptional compassion, advocacy, and dedication to your patients. You truly make a difference.
