I'm not sure if Meghan knows or remembers seeing me, but I am always relieved when we call them, and I see her face.
Earlier this week, we had a traumatic experience in labor and delivery. A pregnant mother came into our triage and went unresponsive. Soon after, we called a code and started CPR. Before the STAT team arrived, our L&D team decided we needed to do a bedside cesarean delivery in the triage room while continuing CPR. Labor and delivery is not a place we come to work and assume we will use our ACLS skills; we help families bring beautiful life into this world. The baby was delivered, and CPR was continuing when the STAT team arrived. We continued to switch compressors, and I remember looking up at Meghan while I was doing them.

At this point, most of our L&D team feels numb and overwhelmed with the experience. I truly couldn't believe what we were doing at that moment. While I was doing compressions, Meghan looked at me and said, "You are doing great; just keep going." Those simple words meant the absolute world to me.

I'm not sure if Meghan knows or remembers seeing me, but I am always relieved when we call them, and I see her face. She is one of the kindest nurses I have ever encountered in my 5 and a half years of being here. She is beyond helpful, knowledgeable, and approachable. Being a young nurse in L&D, I look for people to look up to and learn from. With our patients becoming sicker and requiring higher acuity care, I have become more comfortable in emergency situations because of Meghan.

Meghan: Thank you for never making me feel inferior in areas of medicine I don't have tons of experience in. Thank you for keeping me calm during moments that are traumatizing. Thank you for your explanations and for being personable. Thank you for being you. I just want you to be recognized for the human and nurse that you are.
