My son was admitted and after 17 hours of facial reconstruction surgery, trach revision, and a week in ICU, he was transferred to the Surgical/Trauma floor. Mehret took care of my son up to his discharge date.
On the first day, we expressed our concern for his safety. If he were to need immediate assistance in case of emesis episode with his mouth wired shut and unable to communicate verbally, that pushing the call light and having the staff on the desk say "Can I help you" will only delay and things would end up with aspiration.
Mehret called her charge nurse immediately to explain our concerns for his safety. Then the Charge nurse immediately made a sign and placed it at the nurse's station intercom for the staff to go to the room when the patient calls from the room and alerted all the staff of his communication needs.
Mehret quickly responded to our concerns. Her gentle caring concerns and exceptional care she gave will never be forgotten. My son asked me to write this for him to say "Thank you" to Mehret for her exceptional and kind care she gave him for 4 days. She was, by far the best, most caring nurse ever; words cannot express my gratitude.
