Melanie Gallegos, RN

I was working as night house supervisor. I got a call from an RN in the ED. He needed the ostomy cart and asked if there was someone who was good at ostomies. The patient in the ED went to two different hospitals and the bag was not properly placed. The patient has had some bad experiences, that is why she is at our facility. I asked the AM charge nurse if she knew someone, and Melanie heard it. She said she would take a look at it and see if she could help. She was able to help with the patient's ostomy and provide education. The patient was satisfied and happy with the experience. The ER RN, doctor, and myself were very thankful for her going above and beyond. Also, she was about to go home. It just amazes me how Melanie showed her willingness and work ethic, and she made the patient experience a priority. Moreover, it was a weekend night with no wound care coverage. Lastly, I just want to thank her for what she did, not just for the patient but for the organization.
