Melanie James, RN has been with Newport Medical Center (NMC) for 22 years and works in the Maternal Infant Care Unit. Melanie has repeatedly been recognized by her patients and their families for fulfilling Tennova’s guiding principles of being a servant leader, doing the right thing and never settling.
Melanie’s nominator wrote: Melanie takes care of problems as they arise – she doesn’t pass the buck. When something new comes up in the department, Melanie is wonderful at taking notes, writing directions step-by-step, and labeling everything. She has precepted many new employees in the past and now she orients junior volunteers. Melanie is always laughing and smiling. She knows that little things like giving a patient a piece of gum can make a difference. Melanie has great nursing skills and stays calm and focused when emergency situations arise. She works with enthusiasm and enjoys nursing.
