Melanie Ruz-Nuglo was a float nurse on 5-West last weekend caring for an unresponsive patient brought in that night. During her evaluation she was concerned that the patient may have been the victim of sexual assault and notified the appropriate people of her concern.

Given that this patient was completely unresponsive, this evaluation could have been the only thing that led to appropriate evaluation and evidence collection for a criminal act. Melanie should be recognized for her keen clinical skills and assertive decision making during a difficult situation.
