Melanie maintains a can-do attitude
The Medical Surgical and Telemetry floor is always busy. There is no shortage of work. And Melanie Pasion never stops trying to meet the needs of her multiple patients. Not just her own! Melanie will see any patient who needs help. Melanie has been an integral piece of building our culture up here on the inpatient team. Melanie maintains a can-do attitude, is team-oriented, patient-focused, and when the day is really crazy busy, she just keeps chugging along.
Resiliency can be defined as the capacity to recover quickly from difficulties. I have seen Melanie admit and discharge almost her entire assignment, and never break a sweat! She never looks overwhelmed or stressed, even though I am sure she must be! When I have asked her about taking on a second nursing student on the same day she always smiles and says okay. Melanie is a calm and patient teacher. She asks tough questions and never acts as though she knows all the answers. She isn't afraid to say "I don't know. But let's find out."
For this reason, I asked her to precept our new graduate RN and, as I knew Melanie would, she willingly, and very happily, agreed. I chose Melanie as a preceptor because modeling your practice after Melanie's is a really good thing for our patients, for one's own professional development, and for us as a team.
