I witnessed Melat’s exceptional patient care firsthand during my leadership rounds on the unit. As I entered the room of a hospice patient under her care, the patient’s family immediately expressed deep gratitude and shared how profoundly Melat had impacted their experience during one of the most challenging moments of their lives.
I observed the calm, gentle, and compassionate way Melat cared for the patient, speaking to them with dignity, providing comfort with patience, and supporting the family with empathy and clarity. Through both my direct observation and the heartfelt feedback from the family, I was able to clearly see the extraordinary level of compassion, professionalism, and humanity that Melat brings to every patient she cares for.
Some nurses do their job well, while others leave a lasting impression on the hearts of patients and their families. Melat Tesfay is that kind of nurse.
During one of my leadership rounds, I entered the room of a hospice patient whose condition was rapidly declining. The atmosphere was heavy with emotion. The patient’s family was gathered around him, tired, heartbroken, and preparing for the most difficult goodbye of their lives.
Before I could even introduce myself, the family took my hand and said, “We are so thankful for Melat. We don’t know how we would get through this without her.”
They shared how Melat treated their father not just as a patient, but as a human being deserving of dignity, comfort, and love. They described how she spoke to him gently, even when he could no longer respond; how she adjusted his pillows, cleaned his face with tenderness, and reassured him softly as if he could still hear every word.
