Melia is compassionate, caring, calm, giving, always willing to help, and always has a smile on her face, no matter what time of day.
Gratitude makes sense of our past, brings peace for today, and creates a vision for tomorrow. (Melody Beattie, author)
As I walk through the halls of Providence Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital and acknowledge caregivers, families, and patients alike, it gives me great joy to work with some of the most compassionate providers I have ever worked with. In this time of thanksgiving, I would like to acknowledge and give thanks to a very special coworker, Melia Migliore, for her dedication to excellent patient care.
Melia is compassionate, caring, calm, giving, always willing to help, and always has a smile on her face, no matter what time of day. Melia exemplifies and epitomizes the conduct of a caring and compassionate nurse. I have observed her mentor students and new employees with grace, a smile, compassion, and always with evidence-based care and practice. She does not cut corners; she teaches and demonstrates a level of professional competence that follows policies and procedures that align with the mission of Providence Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital.
Although all the above attributes that Melia demonstrates towards her patients and coworkers are qualifications for a DAISY nomination, there are several occasions that stood out and propelled this nomination. I have personally witnessed Melia's attention to detail as she carried out her nursing duties, which exemplifies the nursing process. She is diligent in reading orders, notes, and task-specific to each of the patients she is trusted to care for. She is an avid learner and does not hesitate to ask for help, clarification, and, in many instances, a joint visit to ensure that her patients receive the best care to bring the best result.
Recently, I received a telephone call from Melia, asking for help in clarifying an order for one of her patients. My evaluation discovered that the patient had not been consulted with the WOC team. Nonetheless, we both went on a journey to ensure that the order was clear and aligned with what the practicing provider wanted. Melia's diligence, practice, and delivery of the best care led to averting what could have been an error in care.
Thank you, Melia, for continuing to deliver excellent care to our patients, mentoring nursing students, and new employees.
