Melinda never left my side and she made me feel priority even with her large patient load.
My nurse, Melinda Ellis, RN, went above and beyond to care for me during my hospital stay. I was placed on the Oncology Unit as an overflow patient and she went out of her way to educate herself about my Crohn's Disease and to make sure that I was comfortable and well taken care of while here. She knew of me getting ready to run out of insurance coverage before my discharge and not going to be able to receive my Remicade Infusion before I was sent home to make sure that I had what I needed without delay that could have caused another Crohn's flare-up and subsequent hospital stay. She kept me comfortable with my pain after my surgical procedure and she watched me closely and eased my fears when we thought that there might be complications post-surgical. She never left my side and she made me feel priority even with her large patient load. She checked on me frequently and called the doctor when there were any concerns. I feel that she is very deserving of this honor because she didn't have to be or do half of the things that she did for me while I was here. She took care of me as a whole patient, mentally, physically, and financially with getting assistance and the team on board. All of this being outside her nursing specialty of oncology. I am very thankful to have had a wonderful nurse and appreciate all her help.
