Melinda Meade is an extraordinary nurse. When Melinda is working on our floor, I know it is going to be a great day. I have always looked up to Melinda as she was my preceptor as a New Graduate Nurse. I have always been inspired by her and strive each shift to be as caring as she is. No matter how many patients Melinda has, she is always willing to help others out on the floor. On this specific day, Melinda had multiple patients of her own, but she heard that a patient down the hall wanted a stuffed animal. This patient had a developmental delay and asked if she could have a stuffed animal to help her sleep better. Melinda overheard this conversation and took it upon herself to handmake a stuffed animal out of a couple of towels and a pillowcase. She even drew on eyes and a mouth. When completed, we took the stuffed animal to the patient and the patient was extremely excited and embraced the stuffed animal and yelled out with excitement. This instance further exudes how caring Melinda truly is. Even though she was exceedingly busy with her own workload, she took the time to help another patient and bring her joy. Melinda is always going above and beyond for patients on our floor and her patients are always so complimentary of her amazing care. She truly treats each patient as if they were her own family member. Melinda is an example of what every nurse should want to be, and I have looked up to her the past two years I have been a nurse. We need more Melinda’s!
