Melinda Mercado, RN BSN
I was set up for a cardiac CT scan. I am an Army vet and a 20+ year Firefighter Paramedic. I will admit I was very spooked about the procedure; Melinda walked me through what was going to happen. Also, my pulse was way too high for where it needed to be. She allowed my wife to sit with me and continued to help me slow my rate down so that I could do the test.
As I said, I am a street paramedic and have dealt with the ghosts and overwhelming feeling that what you do does not matter anymore. As her patient, Melinda has an amazing bedside manner, and she represents her unit and hospital to the highest level of care, embodying what we as caregivers bring to the world, regardless of what is happening in the background.
Every team member I interacted with showed the utmost care and compassion toward an aging, beat-up paramedic. Thank you is not strong enough, so from one caregiver to you guys on the front lines. You do a fine job, and you are making a huge difference in the world!
