Melinda dealt with my post op 38 yr old son after serious bariatric surgery. Pain management was difficult. He was in pain, angry, upset and RN knew how to meet his physical needs as well as his emotional needs. She met him "where he was". She understood him. She was stronger and wiser than he was at the moment and showed real empathy, tough love, leadership, compassion and professionalism at its best. She'd be a great psych nurse! He's 6'5", used to being in charge and for the first time in his life very vulnerable (therefore quite unpleasant!). She was calm all the hours of the day/night stayed pleasant, instructive and asked to be his nurse the second night! Even though she knew it would be a challenge, she was up for it! Wow.
