She is always there before you know you need her. Offering a hand, emotional support, or her knowledge.
I have grown a lot in Stillwater Medical Center from a CNA to an LPN and am continuing my education within the health field. I have met so many influential nurses and I am so thankful for everyone. There is a nurse that continues to exemplify the compassion, integrity, and selflessness of what I believe every nurse should strive to be. Her name is Melisa Martin, RN.
The Emergency Room is full of high-stress, bold personalities, and very fast-paced critical thinking. The atmosphere is not for everyone. Melisa is the nurse you want to work with whether you are brand new or have been working for 100 years in the field. She is always there before you know you need her. Offering a hand, emotional support, or her knowledge.
On the worst days, surrounded by high acuity patients, she is able to keep a calm demeanor that keeps co-workers grounded and the patients aware they are in good hands. I have seen her take leadership in situations that needed her and only wish patients could know the impact she has made on their lives and their families' lives. The direction and attentive care she gives to others are all for the human struggling in front of her. She clearly communicates with all staff members in a respectful and calm way. She communicates with patients’ families and friends about everything that is going on with their loved ones. If there is any question a person may have, she will either answer if she knows or will help you find that answer if she does not.
Melisa continues to astonish me daily. Families, patients, co-workers, and doctors who have had the opportunity to be in her presence would all agree. I believe Stillwater Medical Center is so very lucky to have Melisa Martin, RN representing them. Even on the worst days for someone, she will go out of her way to ask them if they are doing all right or if there is anything she can do to help them. Even on her bad days, she is there for everyone. If you ever have the opportunity to meet this wonderful woman, please thank her for who she is. Melisa is a true DAISY Nurse.
