Melissa could have just left it there and let the patient reschedule but she realized that the patient really needed the infusion and rescheduling would cause transportation issues and other stressors.
Melissa goes above and beyond for patients every day: and reaches out to other departments to coordinate services to streamline the process for patients. She reached out to patient housing to help the patient get into a handicap-accessible room after the patient disclosed to her that she was unable to shower in her current room. They moved the patient over after Melissa spoke with Patient Housing and the patient was able to take a shower. In another instance, she put in significant effort to contact a medical provider so that a patient could receive the scheduled infusion. This patient had actually waited a long time to receive this medication at ANMC instead of Providence. It was finally approved but the order was missing some essential details. The pharmacy had not been able to get a hold of the provider or the referring case manager. She could have just left it there and let the patient reschedule but she realized that the patient really needed the infusion and rescheduling would cause transportation issues and other stressors. She reached out to another provider to see if she could obtain the contact info of the prescribing provider. After several attempts, she was able to contact the provider and connect the provider with the Infusion pharmacy so that the patient could receive the infusion and not be delayed.
