A patient's family nominated Melissa Boggs for the DAISY Award. The family stated that Melissa provided compassionate care to their severely handicapped brother, who is 75 years old, while he was in the hospital diagnosed with pneumonia complicated by mental and physical challenges. Besides performing all nursing duties in a professional way, she took extra time and made additional effort to communicate with the patient. Melissa was obviously interested in his condition and spoke to him regularly in a compassionate way; she was remarkable.
