Melissa has been the Nurse Manager of 3100 for the last 7 months. She is a visible and caring Nurse Manager. She offers the team her clinical knowledge and expertise. She recently took on the role of Wound Care Leader and Management Champion for Unity Living Center. It is said that she never sits for very long. You often see Melissa out on the unit helping with the care of her residents, whether it be passing medications or doing dressing teams. She meets with her staff and the medical team sharing information to keep the unit moving smoothly. She is a team player who will see that a task needs to be completed and she will go ahead and get it done. She has gotten medical consent for other teams when it comes to getting residents boosted. She also does dressing changes and wound rounds on other units if the need arises, and assists with passing medications on other units when we are short. She does it all with a smile and never complains.

Melissa loves the hands-on care whenever she can do it. She is a fair and honest nurse who identifies the strengths of her staff and calls upon them to use them. I recently spoke with one of her nurses who commented that she had given them a glowing performance appraisal and had identified things in the employee that he did not think anyone noticed. Melissa recently made the decision to return to school to become a Nurse Practitioner. She thought she would have to leave ULC, but with a little thought and willingness to be flexible she is going to continue to be one of our shining stars.
