Melissa is an amazing nurse. She is always going above and beyond what is asked of her. She always takes initiative and prioritizes excellent patient care. One instance that stands out is when a patient had to go emergently to the OR for occlusion of circulation to her foot. The patient was wearing a hairpiece. Because she was going to the OR we had to remove the hair piece. The patient looked at Melissa, who was wearing a cap. The patient asked Melissa if she had an extra cap and that she would pay for it. Without hesitating, Melissa removed the cap from her own head and gave it to the patient. Now, mind you, Melissa always wears a cap. I had never previously seen Melissa without one. That day, she selflessly gave the patient her cap, helping to put the patient at ease! This is just one example of the many ways Melissa shows compassion, empathy, and dedication to our patients.
