Melissa coordinated care for a Covid patient to be able to visit another unit to visit his wife who also had a diagnosis of Covid. The patient and his wife are both requiring high oxygen flow requirements and both on the verge of needing possible mechanical ventilation. Melissa coordinated with respiratory and the CN on South 5 to get the patient and his wife reunited. The patient was emotional and crying, expressing to Melissa, “this may be the last time I am able to see my wife.” The level of coordination and compassionate care that Melissa conveyed for this family is very heart-touching. We have watched Covid take the lives of so many family members and to be able to give that last touch and kiss to our patient and his wife is serving above and beyond. The patient and his wife were both on 100% AVAPS and his daughter was also in the room. This is an experience that we hope to hold as a memory for this gentleman and his wife; hoping they make it out of the hospital and know that this was very special. Melissa provided spiritual and emotional care that goes above just nursing. No medicine could have given this family the healing that this moment did. We are blessed to have Melissa serve our patients and be on our South 9 team.
