February 2019 Honoree
melissa dela cerda ayala, RN
Melissa became a primary nurse to one of the most involved patients that not only has complex medical issues due to extreme prematurity but also with severe social issues as the family's main and only language being Spanish. For almost 6 months Melissa never gave up in trying to provide the best care possible to her patient but also to the family.
Melissa is fluent in Spanish; some may think then this should be a breeze, but no one will truly understand the time and effort it takes to think and translate in a different language. Melissa would leave cheat sheets for the nurses when she was not working to help in communicating with the family. Everything she did for this family involved using two languages. Melissa went above and beyond for this family and truly deserves a DAISY Award. I am so happy to be able to work alongside her.

Thank you, Melissa, for your exceptional compassion, advocacy, and dedication to your patients. You truly make a difference.
