She was a mama bear to me. She advocated. She made needed suggestions. She had her eyes on everything. I felt safe and supported by Melissa.
Melissa helped me when I was unexpectedly transferred & admitted to UNC Women’s Hosp. (3rd floor Antepartum). I was only on this floor for 3 days before needing to have an emergency C-section. Melissa was so knowledgeable, kind, warm, empathetic, professional, and funny. When I was scared to death on the OR table getting ready for my 1st baby to be taken out of me, I was introduced to the L&D nurse that would be helping me & lo & behold it was Melissa. As fate would have it, Melissa does one OR delivery a month to stay sharp on those skills & that night was the night she was on. It was such a blessing. She was a mama bear to me. She advocated. She made needed suggestions. She had her eyes on everything. I felt safe and supported by Melissa. My C-Section had issues and took almost 5 hours. Melissa never faltered. Her level of care and kindness followed me all the way to my recovery room. Melissa is the standard of what a nurse should be. You can tell it isn’t just a job, but a calling for her. Every nurse at UNC should spend a day shadowing Melissa. She deserves all the love, light, and accolades in the world.
