Melissa admitted my sister from a late night transfer, and had multiple admissions during that time. She never made you feel like she was too busy, her caring attitude showed through always. She was efficient and took the time every time she came into the room to ask my sister (the patient) or myself if there was anything else she could do. She was the only nurse who took the time to learn and call my sister by her preferred name and not her legal chart name. Her compassion shined in each encounter we had. I was very happy when I found out she would be our nurse the very next night as well. Earlier in the day, an employee dropped some iodine on the floor, it stayed there through the rest of the day shift. Melissa not saying a word that evening, grabbed cleaning supplies and cleaned it up when she saw it. She didn’t say she would get housekeeping or ignore it. She smiled and just cleaned it up. I work in healthcare and have for many years, we are taught the patient comes first, treat them like you would want your family treated and Melissa is a role model for that standard.
